Start Clock is a professional timing tool used by organisers of races such as orienteering, skiing, stair climbing, rally, RC cars, and similar events. The app assists competition staff during the start procedure, supporting interval starts and pursuit (chasing) starts. The app is not intended for children or for general end-user consumption by athletes or spectators.
Start Clock does not collect, request, store, transmit, or infer any personal information about the device user. It does not collect age, accounts, contact details, analytics data, advertising identifiers, or location data. The app does not require creating or signing in to any user account.
Start Clock may optionally import a start list provided by the organiser. Such start lists may contain competitor names, clubs, classes, bib numbers, chip numbers (SPORTident card numbers), and scheduled start times. This data is used only to display upcoming competitor information to the organiser and to the competitors approaching their assigned start time.
All event data is supplied by the organiser, processed only on the device, and never uploaded or transmitted to any external service by Start Clock.
To simplify setup across multiple devices, Start Clock allows the organiser to export the app’s configuration and send it by email to another device running Start Clock. This export may include:
Only configuration data and the user-selected background image are exported. No start lists, competitor information, timing data, or any other event data are included.
The export is performed using the device’s email client. The organiser selects the recipient, and Start Clock does not send email on its own.
Start Clock does not upload or transmit competitor data, start lists, timing information, photos, or any other event-related data to any server. The app does not integrate with online services and does not send any data over the internet.
Start Clock contains no advertising, no in-app tracking, no third-party analytics SDKs, no behavioural profiling, and no cookies or similar tracking technologies. The app does not personalise content or features based on behaviour, identity, or demographics.
Start Clock requests only the permissions required for specific optional features. All such permissions are disabled by default and must be explicitly enabled by the user. Start Clock does not request any other sensitive permissions besides those listed below.
This permission is used only when the user enables GNSS (GPS) time synchronisation. The app reads timing information from GPS signals solely to align the start clock with GNSS time. Any accompanying location data is immediately discarded and not stored, processed, or used for positioning or tracking. The app does not record GPS coordinates or track user movement.
If the user enables the option to capture a photo at the start signal, this permission allows Start Clock to use the device’s camera to take that photo. The image is saved directly to the user’s gallery. The captured image may optionally have a timestamp inserted into it; no other image processing is performed. Start Clock does not record video and does not use the camera for any other purpose.
This permission is used solely to save photos on older devices. The app does not read unrelated files and does not scan the device’s storage. On newer Android versions, Start Clock uses scoped storage where no permission is required.
All event data, settings data, and photos are stored only on the device. No data is uploaded or stored in the cloud unless the user manually sends app settings by email.
The organiser is responsible for managing any stored event data, photos, or imported start lists on the device.
Start Clock does not transmit event data to any servers. When exporting app settings via email, the app hands the data to the device’s email client. Transmission security depends on the email provider’s configuration (for example, whether TLS is used). Start Clock does not control or guarantee the security of email transmission.
The organiser is responsible for ensuring that exported settings including any background photo are sent only to trusted recipients.
Start Clock does not target children. It does not collect or infer age, does not provide age-dependent features, does not change behaviour based on age, and does not contain child-directed content.
This privacy policy may be updated as the app evolves. Any changes will be reflected in this document.
